NPA MD, Abubakar Dantsoho in N174 Billion Budget Padding Scandal

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his team have come under scrutiny over allegations of padding the agency’s 2025 budget to the tune of N174 billion. The controversial additions were reportedly disguised under procurement and IT infrastructure upgrades.

Documents reveal that the inflated budget includes suspicious allocations for the procurement and deployment of Microsoft Windows 11 Professional Operating System for all locations and an upgrade of Microsoft Exchange and NPA’s corporate email infrastructure. Also listed under IT expenses were provisions for electronic content management and data upgrades, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.

The NPA’s budget, which stood at N332.89 billion in 2024, has now skyrocketed to N507.5 billion for 2025, with the difference of over N174 billion prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the legitimacy of the allocations.

Stakeholders and anti-corruption advocates have demanded explanations, questioning why routine IT upgrades would require such a massive financial commitment. The development has fueled concerns about financial mismanagement within government agencies, especially as Nigeria grapples with economic challenges.
