Tension continues to rise in Anambra following the tragic deaths of eight operatives of the State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. While reports initially suggested that the SASA officers took their own lives, fresh allegations have emerged, holding Oba Tipper drivers responsible for the incident.
Evang. Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, has strongly condemned the deaths, dismissing claims that the operatives killed themselves. In a statement, he accused the Tipper drivers of attempting to cover up their role in the tragedy, insisting that justice must be served.
Obigwe alleged that SASA operatives had successfully arrested a suspected drug dealer at the Tipper garage and, based on the suspect’s confession, returned to make additional arrests. However, he claimed that the Tipper drivers obstructed their mission by recklessly blocking their vehicle and eventually ramming into it from both the front and back.
According to him, three SASA officers died on the spot, while others were severely injured. He further alleged that instead of assisting the wounded officers, some individuals at the scene attacked and killed two more operatives. A rescue team later evacuated the remaining officers to the hospital, where three additional SASA personnel succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to eight.
Obigwe called for the immediate arrest of the Tipper drivers for questioning, emphasizing that SASA operatives had been working tirelessly to rid the state of criminal elements. He insisted that those responsible for the attack must be held accountable to ensure justice for the fallen officers.
