Osun LG Elections: Should It Be Held or Postponed?

Osun

As Osun prepares for local government elections tomorrow, conflicting legal rulings and security concerns have sparked debate.

The Federal Government, through AGF Lateef Fagbemi, has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to postpone the polls, citing a February 10 Appeal Court ruling that reinstated previously elected officials until October 2025. He warned that fresh elections would be unconstitutional and destabilizing. Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force has raised security concerns, warning of potential violence.

Despite this, Adeleke insists the elections will hold, backed by an Osun State High Court ruling ordering OSIEC to proceed. The court also directed security agencies, including the police, DSS, Army, and Amotekun, to ensure order during and after the polls.

Reactions are mixed. While the APP opposes the AGF’s stance, IPAC supports OSIEC. Music star Davido also weighed in, saying, “We go use Amotekun.”

With legal battles and security threats in play, should the elections go on?
