Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, held its 13th Convocation Ceremony on March 29, 2025, marking another milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence and infrastructural advancement. The event, which also featured a fundraising campaign for institutional development, saw key stakeholders reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the university’s legacy.
Delivering the convocation address, the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, expressed gratitude to God for the institution’s growth over the past 18 years. He paid tribute to the university’s founder, the late Very Reverend Monsignor (Prof.) John-Bosco Akam, acknowledging his vision of an institution built on faith, discipline, and intellectual transformation.
“His unwavering belief in education as a tool for moral and intellectual growth remains the foundation of this university,” Idemobi stated, urging students to emulate Blessed Iwene Tansi, the university’s namesake, in faith and service to humanity.
Since assuming office less than a year ago, Prof. Idemobi noted that the Governing Council has undertaken key initiatives to enhance professionalism and academic standards. Among them are: Approval of a new code of conduct and salary structure, improving discipline, staff welfare, and attracting top-tier educators.
Execution of major infrastructural projects to improve the academic environment.
Adherence to the National Universities Commission (NUC) regulations to maintain high academic standards.
Continuous curriculum upgrades to align with global educational and industry trends.
Promotion of research and innovation, encouraging faculties and students to engage in groundbreaking discoveries.
The fundraising event was described as a critical step toward securing a brighter future for Tansian University. Prof. Idemobi called on alumni, friends, and stakeholders to contribute generously to the university’s ambitious expansion plans, which include: a world-class Medical School; a Pharmacy School; a distinguished Law Faculty and a Business School to support entrepreneurship, particularly in the Southeast region. Others are new hostel facilities for students and a university chapel to cater to the spiritual needs of the campus community
“We seek help in all these areas and many more. The development of any great institution depends on the support of its stakeholders,” he emphasized.
Addressing the graduates, Prof. Idemobi urged them to uphold the university’s core values of faith, discipline, and excellence as they step into the world.
“You are not just leaving as degree holders but as ambassadors of Tansian University. The world is waiting for you to create uncommon impact and make a difference,” he encouraged.
Reaffirming his commitment to the university’s growth, Prof. Idemobi assured that with the unwavering support of the Board of Trustees, the institution will continue to be a beacon of academic and moral excellence.
“May God bless Tansian University, our students, and all those who contribute to its growth,” he concluded, congratulating the Class of 2025 on their achievement.
