Residents Accuse Nicholas Ukachukwu of Extortion and Harassment in Abuja Estate

Nicholas Ukachukwu

Nicholas Ukachukwu was voted the 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party primaries on Saturday. The same man was once accused of harassing and imposing “illegal levies” on residents of an Abuja estate.

Among other things, Ukachukwu has worked as a property developer in the Federal Capital Territory.

In September, residents of Prince and Princess Estate in Abuja said that estate developer Ukachukwu was extorting, threatening and intimidating them. They also accused him of “forced facility management services” and obstruction in obtaining certificates of occupancy.

Mohammed Ibrahim, leader of the Elders and Board of Trustees of the estate, told journalists that despite the residents having fully paid for their houses for more than 15 years, Ukachukwu continued to violate the principle of owner-occupier as contained in the development lease agreement.

Ibrahim also stated that most of the residents of the estate were active or retired people who had served Nigeria in different capacities.

He also said they had written to FCT minister Nyesom Wike and the police to demand that Ukachukwu vacate the residence, stop the harassment of the residents and also properly issue their Certificates of Occupancy.

We demand inspection of the estate by the relevant team from the FCDA to verify various contraventions to prevent attendant negative consequences to the interest of residents in the estate, as well as commence the direct process for issuance of certificate of occupancy to the house owners with the supervision of a designated officer from FCDA for implementation within a specific timeframe,” Ibrahim said.

“To instruct the developer and their agents to evacuate their security personnel deployed to the estate gates. We hereby appeal to the government to intervene and nip in the bud the use of the police connections to harass and threaten the persons and lives of the president and staff of the association; and to also forestall the attempt to use unfounded allegations to intimidate and prosecute the president of the association and his staff.”
