Residents of Amankanwu Community Protest Against Traditional Ruler Over Alleged Land Grabbing

Amankanwu

Tension rose in Amankanwu Autonomous Community, Amurri, Nkanu West Local Government Area, as residents took to the streets today in a massive protest against their traditional ruler, Igwe Linus Nwobodo.

The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, accused Igwe Nwobodo of land grabbing, high-handedness, and oppressive leadership. They called on relevant authorities to intervene and ensure justice is served.

Speaking to journalists, one of the protest leaders alleged that the monarch had been forcefully seizing community lands for personal gain, leaving many residents dispossessed. Others accused him of ruling with an iron fist, disregarding the welfare of his people.

“We can no longer tolerate this injustice,” said a community elder. “Our land is our heritage, and no one, not even the traditional ruler, has the right to take it from us unlawfully.”

The protest disrupted activities in the area, as youths and elders alike voiced their grievances. Some community members urged the Enugu State Government and relevant authorities to step in before the situation escalates further.

As of the time of filing this report, Igwe Linus Nwobodo had yet to respond to the allegations. Efforts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful.
