Rivers Political Tension: Edison Ehie Denies Blocking Sole Administrator’s Resumption

Edison Ehie

The former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, has vehemently denied reports circulating on social media that he secured a court order preventing the newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from resuming duties.

In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Ehie described the claims as “malicious, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.” He dismissed the reports as the handiwork of “delusional minds” seeking to fuel political tension and disaffection in the state.

The false reports alleged that Ehie had filed a lawsuit challenging the “Presidential Pronouncement of State of Emergency in Rivers State” and that a Rivers State High Court had granted an injunction stopping Vice Admiral Ibas from assuming office. However, Ehie debunked these claims, pointing out glaring inconsistencies in the fabricated narrative.

“The truth is that even the author of this fake news is so uneducated and illiterate that he or she cannot correctly spell my name, the names of others mentioned, or even provide a legitimate suit number, filing date, or hearing details,” Ehie stated.

He urged the public to disregard the misinformation, emphasizing that it was a failed attempt to paint him as a non-conformist and disruptor.

The former Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and peaceful conduct, distancing himself from any attempt to destabilize the state.

“I have since decided to be law-abiding and conduct my affairs peacefully in accordance with the law, holding strong to my faith and God. I have no intention to act in any way that will present me as a disruptor,” he asserted.

Ehie called on the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at large to dismiss the “reckless post” as an unfounded cyber attack meant to incite hatred and confusion.

As political tensions remain high in Rivers State following recent developments, Ehie urged residents to verify information before spreading false narratives that could further escalate the situation.

He reassured Rivers people of his unwavering dedication to peace, stability, and the democratic process.
