Russian president Putin signals readiness for Ukraine talks with Trump

Trump, Putin

Vladimir Putin has expressed his willingness to engage in talks about the Ukraine war with Donald Trump.

In his first response since Trump threatened economic repercussions for Russia if it doesn’t end the conflict in Ukraine, Putin conveyed a positive stance towards the former US president.

Putin told a Russian state TV journalist: “We believe the current president’s statements about his readiness to work together. We are always open to this and ready for negotiations.

It would be better for us to meet, based on the realities of today, to talk calmly.

We always had a business-like, pragmatic but also trusting relationship with the current U.S. president. I couldn’t disagree with him that if he had been president, if they hadn’t stolen victory from him in 2020, the crisis that emerged in Ukraine in 2022 could have been avoided.”
