The Senate has unanimously referred Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review following a recent seating arrangement dispute.

The committee, led by Senator Neda Imaseun, has been given two weeks to present its findings. The decision came after a voice vote, with lawmakers stressing the importance of maintaining parliamentary decorum.

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct during the February 20 session, arguing that the Senate is for lawmaking, not content creation. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to discipline, dismissing claims of gender bias in the dispute.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized the importance of following procedures, suggesting Akpoti-Uduaghan’s unfamiliarity with Senate rules contributed to the altercation. He cited Senate regulations requiring decorum and noted that penalties, including suspension, could apply for infractions.

The committee’s report is expected in two weeks
