
Ahead of the next general elections, the Senate has promised to reintroduce the inclusion of statutory delegates in political parties’ primaries in the proposed amendment of the Electoral Act 2022.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio gave the assurance in Abuja while receiving the National leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA).
Akelicious reports that Senator Akpabio said the omission of statutory delegates from primaries of political parties in the 2022 electoral act was an error on the part of the National Assembly stressing that there were defects in the last Electoral Act that was amended.
He declared that there is the urgent need to cure some of the defects that found in existing electoral system for sound electoral system in the country.
He, however, admonished leadership of NBA to weed out quacks from the legal profession, who according to him, are among very senior members of the bar who were never called to the bar.
In his earlier remark, the National President of NBA, Afam Osigwe ( SAN), told the Senate President that the National Assembly should in the ongoing constitution amendment , bring about reform to eliminate quacks at the bar
