Singer addresses claims of unfulfilled promises in new freestyle
Popular music star, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has responded to allegations made by socialite and media personality, Sophia, after a voice recording of her accusations went viral.
In a freestyle video shared on Friday, February 28, 2025, Burna Boy seemingly addressed the controversy, singing, “If you no get me, forget about it. I no buy Lambo, is that why you are shouting? Dem dey. Where dem dey?”
The drama began after an audio clip surfaced online, allegedly featuring Sophia and a friend discussing her past relationship with Burna Boy. In the recording, Sophia claimed the singer pursued her persistently before they eventually met at a club. Their relationship progressed, and she alleged that before they engaged in intimacy, Burna Boy had made several grand promises to her.
“Eventually, I agreed to see him, and after the club, we went home. I was like, whatever happens, happens. We ‘knacked’ and all of that because he had already sold me a lot of dreams, and I thought he could be one of my guys. He’s a celebrity, and we know how to code it,” she was heard saying in the recording.
However, Sophia later expressed disappointment, stating that Burna Boy failed to fulfill his promises, particularly regarding a Lamborghini. She claimed he kept making excuses, and when it became clear he would not deliver, she decided to cut him off. “The day I paid for my car, I blocked him,” she said.
The allegations ignited widespread reactions on social media, with opinions sharply divided. Some criticised Sophia for expecting a luxury car in exchange for intimacy, while others called out Burna Boy for allegedly making empty promises.
Attempts by Saturday Beats to reach Sophia for comments were unsuccessful, as her main social media page was locked. A message was sent to her backup account, but she did not respond.
Meanwhile, amidst the controversy, former Big Brother Naija winner, Mercy Eke, made headlines after announcing the purchase of a new Lamborghini worth nearly half a billion Naira. Dressed in a striking sequin black outfit, she posed beside the orange luxury car in a video that quickly went viral. However, shortly after her big reveal, a social media user known as Throat Tracker alleged that Mercy had only paid 40 percent of the car’s price.
“Mercy the ********** has paid 40 per cent deposit for that Lambo. Tell Mr. MH to quickly forge receipts/documents for you to debunk my claim right here, and I’ll dig deeper too. Your behaviour disgusts me,” the post read.
As social media continues to buzz with debates over both controversies, Burna Boy’s freestyle suggests he has moved on from the drama—whether Sophia or the public chooses to do the same remains to be seen.
