The Independent Shari’ah Arbitration Panel in Ekiti State has held its first public sitting at the popular Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ado-Ekiti.
SaharaReporters reports that the inaugural sitting of the Shariah panel was held last Thursday.
It was gathered that the panel was presided over by three Kadhis Imam Abdullahi Abdul-Mutolib, Imam Abdulraheem Junaid-Bamigbola, and Dr. Ibrahim Aminullahi-Ogunrinde who entertained two marriage-related disputes.
In the first case, Imam Abdul-Mutolib announced that the issue between the couple had been resolved through a consent judgment, following prior mediation by family members.
However, the second case, which involved a wife accusing her husband of neglecting his marital duties, was adjourned until January 30 for further investigation and a more thorough hearing to ensure a fair outcome.
The panel’s sitting comes amid opposition from various groups in the southwestern region of Nigeria against the implementation of Sharia law.
