Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has underscored the importance of youth empowerment as a crucial solution to the growing issue of youth restiveness in Nigeria.
His remarks came during an empowerment program hosted by the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos, where he emphasized the multifaceted approach his administration is taking towards tackling youth challenges in the region.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Governor Soludo notably discussed the impact of the “One Youth Two Skills” initiative, which aims to equip young individuals with vocational skills that enhance employability.
Ezeajughi stated that thousands of youths have already benefited from this scheme, allowing them to find meaningful engagement and reduce the allure of criminal activities.
Governor Soludo highlighted that the initiative has not only transformed the lives of participants but has also served as a national template for youth empowerment programs across Nigeria. He pointed out the significant strides his administration has made in various sectors, including agriculture, technology, and education, all aimed at creating a conducive environment for youth to thrive.
“The initiatives we are implementing are more than just programs; they are pathways for our youths to succeed,” stated Ezeajughi, reflecting the governor’s sentiments. He applauded the collaborative efforts of government and non-government organizations, emphasizing that such partnerships are essential for sustainable development.
In addition to the empowerment program, Governor Soludo participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for a low-cost housing project, an endeavor spearheaded by the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church. This project is intended to provide affordable housing solutions to vulnerable communities, further promoting social stability and economic empowerment.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, also shared the stage with Soludo at the event, reinforcing the shared vision among state leaders for fostering youth development. Adeleke commended the church’s initiative and echoed the transformative power of empowerment programs in reducing restiveness among the youth demographic.
The presentation of empowerment items to program beneficiaries was another highlight of the event, showcasing the tangible impact these initiatives can have on individual lives. Many participants expressed gratitude for the support, recognizing it as a vital stepping stone toward personal and professional development.
As the event concluded, Governor Soludo urged the church and other stakeholders to sustain their efforts towards youth empowerment. He reminded attendees that the battle against restiveness is ongoing and requires a collective commitment from all sectors of society to effectively address the root causes of youth discontent.
The combined efforts of government and religious organizations in addressing youth issues represent a critical shift towards more inclusive governance in Nigeria. With a leader like Soludo at the forefront, there is hope that meaningful change can be achieved, fostering a brighter future for the nation’s youth.
As youth empowerment continues to gain traction as a priority in policy discussions, stakeholders from various sectors are now being called upon to lend their expertise and resources to this noble cause, aiming to turn the tide against restiveness and build a more resilient society.
