
Stakeholders from Enugu East local government area have applauded Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State over what they described as his leadership commitment and transformative initiatives towards the welfare of the people.
They further commended the Enugu East council boss, Engr. Beloved-Dan Anike, for his inclusive development agenda which extended across the electoral wards, adding that the council chairman had already emulated the governor’s leadership model for speedy development.
The commendations were made at a meeting of the stakeholders of the council area convened by the chairman in Enugu on Monday to review the performance of the local government administration over the past five months and to also interact with them.
The town-hall which featured different interactive sessions on the future development of Enugu East, was designed to align with the disruptive innovation agenda of the state governor.
Addressing the town-hall at the Nike Lake and Resort Hotel, Engr Anike said Governor Mbah’s administration had been widely acknowledged for its bold and visionary leadership which had been driving transformative policies across the state.
“From economic revitalization to infrastructural renewal, the governor’s commitment to disruptive innovation has significantly repositioned the state. His administration’s strides in education, healthcare, digital transformation, and urban renewal have created a model for sustainable development. All these have attracted both local and international recognition.
“Beyond infrastructure and social programmes, the council has been proactive in governance reforms, including the proposal for the Enugu East Land Mediation Centre. This initiative, now in its second reading, seeks to resolve land ownership disputes, promote alternative dispute resolution, and enhance access to justice in land-related matters,” he said.
Anike, who took time to render the account of his stewardship which cuts across all the wards, promised continued engagement with the stakeholders, noting that the council administration would also convene an expanded town-hall that would include all the members of the council from wards to units levels.
Stakeholders who spoke included the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Felix Nnamani, State People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Woman Leader, Hon Peace Patrick Nnaji, Former Deputy Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Dennis Agbo, Former Council Chairman, Dr. Alex Ugwu, Former Zonal Woman Leader Enugu East, Mrs. Chinwe Ogbu, JAAC Secretary, Dr. Peter Aneke, Former Commissioner, Chief Clement Okwor, LG Party Chairman, Hon Okechukwu Igbokwe, among others.
The stakeholders extolled the governor for his people-centered governance, emphasizing that his impact has been felt across all sectors of the state.
While celebrating the execution of some of the key infrastructure by the government in the area and across the state, the stakeholders said they were overwhelmed by the Construction of Smart Green Schools and Type 2 Health Care Centers across the 12 wards in Enugu East council.
“The ongoing dualization of Abakpa-Ugwogo-Nsukka-Opi Road and the Nike Lake Road, Including the urban road construction and mapping in Abakpa, Trans-Ekulu, and Emene show that the governor has been good to our people,” Dr. Nnamani noted.
Dr. Alex Ugwu, former council boss said, “In line with the governor’s vision, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Anike has championed an inclusive and sustainable development agenda in Enugu East Local Government, ensuring that no community is left behind. His administration has focused on human capital development, purpose-driven infrastructure, rural electrification, quality education, improved healthcare services, security, and social investment.”
Also reviewing the achievements of the local government under Engr Anike over the past five months, the stakeholders said they were satisfied with the way the council was championing an all-inclusive development initiatives.
Reaffirming confidence in the council leadership, they stressed that the award of scholarships to secondary school students, payment of WAEC fees for 1,700 students, equipment and training of 400 youths in various skills, targeting 1,000 beneficiaries in 2025 and the successful documentation of over 600 undergraduates for bursary awards were among numerous projects impacting the lives of the people.
The highlight of the meeting saw all the stakeholders unanimously passing a vote of confidence in both Governor Mbah for his unprecedented achievements in the past 22 months, and Engr Anike over his landmark performance in human capital and infrastructural development.
