The Worth of ₦1,000 Under President Tinubu: A Nation in Crisis

Once upon a time, ₦1,000 was enough to buy a decent meal, stock up on essential groceries, or even afford a small indulgence. Today, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), ₦1,000 has become the new ₦100—a mere token with little purchasing power.

A derica of rice or beans? Out of reach.
A loaf of bread? Too expensive.
A tin of sardines? Forget it.
Even a modest meal at a roadside bukka, once the saving grace of the common man, is now a luxury.

The reality of Nigeria’s economic crisis is no longer hidden behind statistics and government propaganda—it is evident in the markets, on the streets, and in the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians. Inflation has skyrocketed, the naira continues to depreciate, and the cost of living is at an all-time high. Despite this, the leadership remains detached, failing to address the suffering of the people.

One of Nigeria’s biggest problems has always been leadership. Instead of prioritizing the welfare of the people, politicians are more concerned with personal enrichment, political positioning, and empty rhetoric. The government is quick to make promises of economic reforms and renewed hope, yet everyday Nigerians see no tangible improvements.

Where is the economic transformation APC promised? Where is the relief for struggling families? Instead of meaningful policies to curb inflation, we get increased taxation and austerity measures that only worsen the burden on citizens. Instead of improved wages, we get skyrocketing costs of essential goods. Instead of real solutions, we get excuses.

Perhaps the most tragic aspect of Nigeria’s current situation is the way people have normalized suffering. The resilience of Nigerians is often praised, but at what cost? The average citizen is forced to endure extreme hardship while those in power continue to live lavishly. Nigerians suffer and smile, because, for many, there is no other choice.

Yet, the truth remains bitter—Nigeria is at a crossroads. The economy is crumbling, trust in leadership is eroding, and social unrest looms. If the government does not take urgent steps to address inflation, unemployment, and economic instability, the consequences could be dire.

Nigeria, once called the “Giant of Africa,” is now a shadow of its former self. The country is blessed with vast resources, yet poverty and economic hardship dominate the headlines. The question now is: where is Nigeria going under APC leadership? If the present trend continues, the future looks bleak.

The government must wake up. Leaders must stop ignoring the bitter truth. Nigerians are not asking for miracles—they are demanding the basic right to live with dignity. If the APC government truly cares about the people, it must take decisive action to stabilize the economy, strengthen the naira, and make life affordable again.

Until then, the reality remains: ₦1,000 can barely buy anything, and Nigerians continue to suffer.
