U.S. President Donald Trump has once again extended the deadline for the sale of the popular video-sharing app TikTok to non-Chinese buyers, postponing a potential nationwide ban.

In an executive order announced on Friday, Trump granted an additional 75 days for the app’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to finalize a deal. This marks the second extension, following a January deadline outlined in legislation passed by Congress in 2024.

“My Administration has been working very hard on a deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “The deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed. We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal.”

The 2024 law—enacted with rare bipartisan support—mandated TikTok’s divestment on national security grounds, citing concerns that the Chinese government could access sensitive user data.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law, ruling that national security interests outweighed freedom of speech concerns raised by critics.

Negotiations continue between ByteDance, U.S. regulators, and potential American buyers, as the future of one of the world’s most influential social media platforms hangs in the balance.
