A brewing family feud nearly turned deadly on the evening of April 12 in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, when gunshots rang out during a heated altercation between siblings. Swift intervention by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, helped contain the situation and avert what could have escalated into a fatal tragedy.
According to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command, officers responded promptly to the scene and rescued a victim who sustained a gunshot wound. In the process, they arrested two suspects and recovered a cache of weapons, including one AK-47 rifle, one pistol, and six rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the conflict stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victim and one of the armed suspects—his brother—who reportedly sought the help of an accomplice to settle scores.
The victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, the arrested individuals are undergoing interrogation as authorities work to uncover the full details of the incident.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development and assured the public that justice will be served.
