Engr. Dr. Saturday Genuine Ebigenibo, an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, has responded to “misleading” claims regarding the performance of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sourced from different filling stations. He urged Nigerians to disregard the rumor that PMS from one station may burn slower or perform better than that from another.
Dr. Ebigenibo, who is also the Acting Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Acting Director of the Offshore Technology Institute, emphasized that the quality and performance of PMS are regulated and standardized, making it impossible for fuel from one accredited filling station to significantly differ in combustion efficiency from that of another.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) and a Master of Engineering (M. Eng) from the University of Port Harcourt, as well as a Ph.D. in Energy and Thermofluid Engineering from Cranfield University, UK. With his extensive expertise in energy systems, he reassured the public that the claims are unfounded and based on misinformation.
Dr. Ebigenibo’s remarks come amid growing concerns among consumers regarding fuel quality, prompting him to clarify that all PMS sold at licensed filling stations meets the same national standards for performance and safety.
He concluded by encouraging motorists to remain informed and rely on credible sources for information regarding fuel quality.
