Nigerian forward Victor Boniface missed Bayer Leverkusen’s training session on Tuesday due to illness but is expected to return in time for their Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin on Saturday.
According to Bild, the Super Eagles striker sat out the session as a precaution, and there is optimism that he will be fit enough to make the matchday squad.
Boniface, once a regular in Xabi Alonso’s starting eleven, lost his place after suffering a hamstring injury during international duty in November. However, he has recently worked his way back into the squad, starting Leverkusen’s last two Bundesliga games.
His return also follows a failed January transfer move to Saudi club Al Nassr. Despite limited opportunities in 2025, Boniface has contributed three goals and one assist in ten appearances.
Leverkusen’s 1-0 victory over Heidenheim last weekend reduced Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga to six points, with six matches remaining.
