Popular actress and filmmaker Wumi Toriola has expressed excitement over the massive success of her film, Queen Lateefah, which has become one of the highest-grossing Nigerian films of 2024, raking in an impressive N350 million at the box office.

Speaking in an interview, Toriola described the achievement as both thrilling and challenging. “It makes me feel great and at the same time gives me a lot of responsibility because one will want to get better. Beating that record is a lot of responsibility,” she said.

Looking ahead to 2025, the actress hinted at major projects and high-profile collaborations. “We are expecting something huge—more collaborations, but in a big way,” she revealed, fueling anticipation among her fans and industry watchers.

Reflecting on the journey to Queen Lateefah’s success, Toriola highlighted the importance of patience and preparation. She revealed that the film had been in development for years, with multiple rewrites and delays. “I learnt that it’s never too late. I would have shot Queen Lateefah some four years ago, but it didn’t happen. I had hitches with my story, and I wasn’t completely satisfied, so I kept rewriting it. I faced disappointments, but what I’ve learnt is that whenever you come out, just come out well. The place of preparation was helpful for me,” she said.

With Queen Lateefah’s record-breaking performance, Toriola has solidified her place as one of Nollywood’s top filmmakers. Fans and industry insiders now eagerly await her next big move.
